Mabuhay! My name is Sabrina Garcia and I currently attend Immaculate Conception Academy Cristo Rey in San Francisco. I have played a big role in my school community by being apart of the National Honor Society, Filipino-American Club, my very own club called Spartan Sideline, and Block which is a specialized organization that serves as an “outward facing” group providing support and hospitality to members of the greater community. I have also been involved in several corporate jobs such as Nelson Staffing, Hills Health, and Cigna Healthcare. Aside from working, I have been volunteering at San Francisco SPCA and St. Anthony’s Foundation which associate with animal care and community care such as distributing food to those in need. Growing up with a single mother, and experiencing an early life of poverty has made me stand out from others who have had a better foundation growing up. Due to the experiences that I have grown up with, it made me decide to join a non-profit organization called Larkin Street Youth Services. Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has given more than 75,000 young people a safe place to rebuild their lives. They provide housing, education and employment training, as well as health and wellness support to help young people build their way up and off the streets into a better lifestyle. Although my family has fallen into poverty causing us to lose our home, it has opened up my eyes in realizing how independent, responsible, and strong I have to be for my family and I. By being apart of this organization I am able to show my community that poverty is not the end and by doing so I pray and hope to see the youth strive for education, and continue to grow towards their career of choice. Thank you!
