A journey to the Philippines and extend a helping heart

Reaching Out…..

I loved every minute I got to spend with the kids and doctors. Seeing the smiles on their faces brought me so much joy and it made my experience in the Philippines unforgettable! I pray for all kids fighting cancer and other life threatening diseases. And also a huge thank you to the doctors at Philippines General Hospital, all your work and efforts are what make this world a better place.

Miss Philippines USA Community Involvement

Helping The needy!

www.midnightmission.org

Mission 1

To offer a bridge to self-sufficiency for people experiencing homelessness through recovery services, counseling, education, training, workforce development and continued care services. To make available the necessities of life to people experiencing homelessness: food, shelter, clothing, personal hygiene needs and medical care.

Our Values

To offer the 12-Step approach to recovery.
To serve people experiencing homelessness with empathy and respect, without sermonizing.
To provide our services as an independent human service organization.

 Healthy Living

34% of homeless individuals in Los Angeles County experience lifestyle disorders. Skid Row, where one in three residents are homeless, is one of the most densely-populated areas of people experiencing homelessness. Our Healthy Living Program not only helps reduce the
condition of homelessness in Downtown Los Angeles, it improves the quality of life for anyone who comes through our doors.

The Midnight has been serving individuals in Los Angeles Skid Row area for a century. What we have learned over this long history is that repairing the lives of formerly-homeless individuals is really about recreating their safety net. The safety net is a network that we as members of society access every day—not only legal and medical care, but friends and family who we can rely on for problems large and small. People experiencing homelessness and suffering from lifestyle disorders that keep them out of society need The Midnight to help them rebuild that safety net, which can include connections to career resources, mental health professionals and housing opportunities. The goal is a self-sufficient, secure, and successful future.

Our Healthy Living Program has been designed from industry-wide best
practices and progressive thinking. With strong educational, vocational, legal and health & wellness resources; our customized program gives each person the tools for becoming self-sufficient.

San Diego’s Lumpia Fest Exposes the Beauty of Philippine Culture

Reference: www.lumpiafest.com

As a group of Filipino Americans, we’ve seen Lumpia bring people of all different backgrounds together. It may seem silly, but it really happens. Like when an auntie brings a tray of lumpia to work for someone’s birthday and the non-filipinos ask,“What’s that?”  “It’s lumpia… kind of like an egg roll. Try it!”One bite and and they’re hooked! at the end of the day, the purpose of lumpia Fest is to expose the beauty of our culture to all of San Diego.

Oh… and have an excuse to stuff ourselves with food!
San Diego’s Top Lumpia Makers Compete for the Title of
LUMPIA CHAMPION!

We’ve challenged our participants to take traditional lumpia, and fuse it with new flavors and ingredients to create handcrafted “gourmet lumpia.”

IN A NUTSHELL:

You’ll get to sample their lumpia creations and other specialty food items (not just lumpia) from San Diego’s most creative restaurants while enjoying music, entertainment, and a lumpia eating contest!

Ticket Price Includes UNLIMITED FOOD SAMPLES.

What is lumpia?
If you’ve ever been to a Filipino house party or had Filipino co-workers, then you already know! In the Philippines, lumpia is one of the most common dishes found in any kind of gathering and celebration.

It is a delicious snack made of thin crepe pastry skin called “lumpia wrapper” enveloping a mixture of fillings, consists of chopped vegetables (carrots, cabbages, green beans, bamboo shoots and leeks) or sometimes also minced meat (chicken, shrimp, pork or beef). It is often served as an appetizer or snack, and might be served deep fried or fresh.
